    • PURPOSE:To measure two kinds of element compsns. and coating thickness of a sample to be examined with one time of operation by passing the fluorescent X-rays from the sample to be examined separately through different filters of an automatic filter exchanger, then allowing said rays to enter an X-ray detector. CONSTITUTION:An X-ray tube 2 connected to an X-ray source 1 and a proportional counter 4 are installed diagonally above the sample 3 to be examined coated with an alloy and composite oxide contg. >=2 kinds of the components. The automatic filter exchanger 6 mounted with the different filters 5, 5' is installed between the sample 3 and the counter 4. The fluorescent X-rays from the sample 3 transmit through the filter 5 and enter the counter 4 by which the intensity of the fluorescent X-rays is detected. The exchanger 6 is actuated to exchange the filter 5 with the filter 5' and then measurement is made during this measurement. The intensities of two kinds of the fluorescent X-rays occurring in the filters 5, 5' are, therefore, detected. The intensities of both the fluorescent X-rays are inputted to a counter circuit 8 to be selected according to the kind of the filter to be used by a change-over mechanism 7 operating linked with the exchanger 6. The intensities of the fluorescent X-rays are thereby digitized. The values are sent to a data processing circuit 9. The compsn. and coating amt. of the constituting elements of the sample 3 are thus measured with a single operation.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conductive diamond electrode structure for use in electrolytic synthesis of a fluorine-containing substance using a fluoride ion-containing molten salt electrolytic bath, and a method for electrolytic synthesis of the fluorine-containing substance using the conductive diamond electrode structure.
      SOLUTION: The conductive diamond electrode structure comprises: a conductive electrode feeder 8; and a conductive diamond catalyst carrier 9 comprising a conductive diamond film carried on a surface of a conductive substrate, wherein the conductive diamond catalyst carrier 9 is detachably attached to the conductive electrode feeder 8 at a portion to be immersed in the electrolytic bath. The conductive diamond electrode structure is used as a cathode in the method for electrolytic synthesis of the fluorine-containing substance.

    • PURPOSE:To easily measure the compsn., etc., of the constituting elements of a sample to be examined by passing the fluorescence X-rays from the sample through filters which are different in transmission performance, then allowing said X-rays to enter >=2 pieces of counters. CONSTITUTION:The sample 3 to be examined coated with an alloy and compound oxide contg. >=2 kind of the components is disposed right under an X-ray tube 2 connected to an X-ray source 1 and to units of the proportional counters 4, 5 are installed in the diagonal direction of the sample 3. The fluorescence X-rays from the sample 3 transmit two sheets of the filters 6, 7 which are different in the transmission performance. The intensity of the fluorescence X-rays is measured by the counters 4, 5. The intensity of the fluorescence X-rays is digitized in a counter device 8 and is fed to a data processing circuit 9. The compsn. and coating amt. of the constituting elements of the sample 3 are easily measured with the sample operation by using the sample having the known components, compsn. and coating amt. in the circuit 9.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the chlorine generating current efficiency in seawater in the case of producing an electrode by depositing the multiple oxide consisting of a noble metal oxide and a valve metal oxide on a base material by thermal decomposition to form a substrate and then electrodepositing manganese dioxide thereon. SOLUTION: Plate or expanded-mesh titanium is used as the electrode base material from the standpoint of corrosion resistance, and the oxide of a platinum metal, preferably iridium or ruthenium, and the oxide of such a valve metal as Ti, Ta and Zr are thermally decomposed and deposited to form a substrate layer. The composition of the substrate metal is controlled to noble metal/valve metal being 10 to 90 weight/90 to 10 weight, and manganese dioxide is electrodeposited on the substrate layer. At least one kind among the tungstate, molybdate and oxide of vanadium is preferably added to lower the current effect on generating chlorine. Further, after manganese dioxide is electrodeposited, the product is used as such in seawater without being dried.
