    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cytokine analogous to TNF involved in a disease state. SOLUTION: An isolated nucleic acid molecule has an amino acid sequence at least 95% identical to a sequence selected from (a) a nucleotide sequence encoding a full length endokine α polypeptide having a specific amino acid sequence or encoding a cDNA clone contained in ATCC Deposit No. 97640, (b) a nucleotide sequence encoding an extracellular endokine α polypeptide having a specific amino acid sequence of about 44-169 residue or encoded by the cDNA clone, (c) a nucleotide sequence encoding an endokine α membrane-spanning domain having a specific amino acid sequence of about 18-43 residue or encoded by the cDNA clone, (d) a nucleotide sequence encoding an endokine α intracellular domain having a specific amino acid sequence of about 1-17 residue or encoded by the cDNA clone and (e) a nucleotide sequence which is complementary to either one of above items (a) to (d).
