A method of automatically programming NC program data for a wire-cut discharge machining apparatus, in which data for specifying an approach passage and an escape passage as well as wire-cut machining conditions are registered in advance. In automatically carrying out the programming, the machining profiles (51, 52, ---) only are successively defined without the need of inputting the approach passage, escape passage or machining conditions. Thereafter, (i) NC data for approaching, (ii) NC data for moving the wire electrode along the machining profiles (51, 52, ---), and (iii) NC data for escapement are prepared using the data of machining profiles and the registered data for each of the machining profiles (51, 52, ---).
