An objective of this invention is to provide a chlorine dioxide generating device with a decreased size and capable of providing sufficient amount of chlorine dioxide for a prolonged time. Provided is a chlorine dioxide generating device, which is characterized by comprising a light source part and an agent containing part. The light source part generates a light substantially consisting of wavelengths in visible light region, and the agent containing part contains an agent comprising a solid chlorite, and a metal catalyst or metal oxide catalyst. The agent containing part comprises one or more opening parts so as to enable air to move in or out, and here, the agent exists inside of the agent containing part is irradiated by the light generated from the light source part to generate chlorine dioxide gas.
