PURPOSE: A device and a method for detecting sounds in a target space using a microphone array are provided to amplify sounds received from a desired target space and reduce the sounds received from a undesired target space, thereby improving focusing performance. CONSTITUTION: A method for detecting sounds in a target space using a microphone array is as follows. Microphones(512,514,516,518) comprising a microphone array are arranged in a basic form. A focusing with respect to sounds transmitted from a target space is performed based on a preset algorithm while rearranging the microphones. An arrangement of the microphones is determined so that the microphones can maximize the sounds received from the target space. The focusing with respect to the sounds transmitted from the target space is performed according to the arrangement of the microphones determined by the algorithm.
