PURPOSE:To obtain the present mat capable of exhibiting sheet resilience with stiffness, by superposing a solid aggregate of loopy, erected and disturbed synthetic resin filaments on a synthetic resin layer having extremely rare or no interstices. CONSTITUTION:A thermoplastic synthetic resin material is extruded through a T-die 1 under pressure to form two sets of filaments (2a) and (2b). Far infrared heaters (3a) and (3b), together with reflecting plates 9 and 9, are arranged in a lowering zone of the filaments (2a) and cooling water 5 is locally boiled to form an aggregate (A) of coiled loops having relatively many fused parts. A conveyor 4 facing a water surface is placed in a lowering zone of the filament (2b) and driven at the same velocity as the settling speed in water of the aggregate (A). The surface of the resultant aggregate (B) is softened by heating with the heater (3b) and fuse the loops on one side of the aggregate (A).
