    • A band switching double-tuned circuit for receiving analogue or digital television broadcasts is discribed. It is adapted to receive VHF low band and high band signals and comprises inductive coupling means for each band switching diode (D3, D4) connected at the input and output side and in series with a high band inductor connected to ground. The junction of each switching diode (D3, D4) and high band tuning inductor (L1, L4) are connected to a high band coupling inductor (L6) in order to inductively couple the input to the output. For low band RF response (L2, L5) are aligned, whereas for high band (L1) and (L4) are aligned. (L1) and (L4) can be physically aligned for high band, (by operator manipulation) without having to consider the image frequency. To set the correct image frequency for high band reception, inductor (L6) must be correctly aligned for optimum image rejection.

    • The invention relates to a phase-locked loop system for tuning the receive frequency of a receiver for digitally and analogly modulated receive signals, comprising at least one voltage-controlled oscillator (29, 45) for generating an oscillator signal for tuning the receive frequency, a first frequency divider (71) for dividing the frequency of the oscillator signal to a desired standard frequency in accordance with a receive channel selection signal, a reference oscillator (84) for releasing a reference oscillator signal with a certain reference frequency, a second frequency divider (81) for dividing the reference frequency according to a certain receive type-switch signal, and a phase comparing circuit (83, 88) for comparing the signals released by the frequency dividers (71, 81) in order to generate a tuning voltage for the voltage controlled oscillator (29, 45). The amplification KD of the phase comparing circuit (83, 88) can be adjusted in order to optimise the phase noise.

    • A method and apparatus for fully integrating a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) on an integrated circuit. The VCO is implemented using a differential-mode circuit design. The differential-mode implementation of the VCO preferably comprises a differential mode LC-resonator circuit, a digital capacitor, a differential pair amplifier, and a current source. The LC-resonator circuit includes at least one tuning varactor and two high Q inductors. The tuning varactor preferably has a wide tuning capacitance range. The tuning varactor is only used to "fine-tune" the center output frequency fo of the VCO. The center output frequency fo is coarsely tuned by the digital capacitor. The VCO high Q inductors comprise high gain, high self-resonance, and low loss IC inductors. The IC VCO is fabricated on a high resistivity substrate material using a trench isolated guard ring. The guard ring isolates the fully integrated VCO, and each of its component parts, from RF signals that may be introduced into the IC substrate by other devices. By virtue of the improved performance characteristics provided by the digital capacitor, the analog tuning varactor, the high Q inductor, and the trench isolated guard ring techniques, the inventive VCO is fully integrated despite process variations in IC fabrication.
