    • The purpose of the invention is to provide an isolating switch in which the arc time is kept short. In the single-post pantograph-type isolating switch of the invention, first of all the main contacts (1, 2) open, followed by the auxiliary contacts (3, 4). A diode (5, 6) is inserted between the main contacts (1, 2) and the relevant auxiliary contacts (3, 4). The anode of diode (5) is connected to main contact (1) and its cathode to auxiliary contact (3) while the cathode of diode (6) is connected to main contact (2) and its anode to auxiliary contact (4). After the auxiliary contacts (3, 4) have opened, an arc may be formed which remains between the corresponding contacts after a half wave. The arc disappears on the next passage through zero of voltage. The invention makes it possible for the first time to ensure the quenching of the arc at the next passage through zero of voltage regardless of heavy and frequent operation and of environmental and meteorological effects.
