    • A dryer (100) is provided with a direct drive fan assembly (10) for circulating air through a drying chamber (102) formed in the dryer (100). The direct drive fan assembly (10) includes a fan plug (50) mounted to the dryer (100) and a fan (20) rotatively mounted adjacent an interior side of the fan plug (50). A load adapter (60) is secured to the fan plug (50) and projects outwardly therefrom. A motor (30) is mounted to the load adapter (60) via a motor adapter (70). There is provided a continuous drive shaft assembly from the motor, through the motor adapter (70), through the load adapter (60), and through the fan plug (50). The drive assembly connects to the fan (20) disposed adjacent the interior side of the fan plug (50).

    • A low impact belt dryer is presented for drying pellets while minimizing high- energy pellet collisions that may create pellet dust or cause pellets to fracture. The dryer includes a vacuum chamber having multiple air knife assemblies that direct high velocity drying fluid towards the pellets and though a liquid-permeable pellet-impermeable belt to a vacuum port. The low impact dryer may also include a centrifugal dryer for dewatering the pellets before they pass though the vacuum chamber. The conveyor belt of the dryer may transport the pellets through multiple desiccation chambers where low velocity air is directed upwards though the belt to both dry and levitate the pellets above the belt. The dryer may also include a cleaning chamber for removing debris from the liquid- permeable pellet-impermeable belt.

    • A microwave exposure chamber (10) is used to process an agricultural commodity (20). A microwave waveguide (12) connects a microwave source (30) to an exposure region (14). Sensors (50 and 50') measure temperature characteristics of the agricultural commodity as it passes via conveyor belt (40) through the exposure region (14). Heat delivery is controlled by control circuit (60) by increasing or decreasing the power level of the microwave source (30) and by increasing or decreasing the conveyor (40) speed at which the agricultural commodity passes through the exposure region (14). The microwave exposure chamber (10) removes moisture at a higher rate from high moisture portions of the commodity so as to equalize the moisture content and improve the processing and storage characteristics of the commodity. Also, a method separating the skin of an agricultural commodity (20) is accompliched by varying the temperature through the use of microwave power and the length of electromagnetic exposure time.

    • In a method for the drying of feed pellets in particular, and a drying plant for the implementation of the method, and in which the drying medium is air in a forced flow and with adjusted temperature and relative humidity, it has been aimed at achieving at all times an optimal drying of the drying matter as this is fed forward within the drying plant. This is achieved by means of a two- or multistage drying process, in which each stage receives a separate flow of air, i.e. a flow in which the drying properties (temperature, moisture content, flow rate) of the air is adjusted to the consistency and heat condition (moisture and temperature) of the drying matter within the respective drying stage. In the plant there are at least two (36, 38) of a plurality of drying matter conveyors (36, 38, 40) enclosed in a separate chamber (30, 32, 34) with in- and outlets for drying matter and drying air, respectively, and which are communicating between themselves or with the surroundings only through ducts provided with gates (42, 42', 42'', 42''').
