First and second piston actuator positions for magnetically disposing the piston in valve open and valve closed positions are provided. A pneumatic actuator driving circuit pneumatically moves the piston actuator from one to the other of first and second piston actuator positions to dispose the piston in the open and closed positions. The valve includes an annular valve assembly. One valve assembly position is a normally closed position and a positive air flow control signal moves the piston to open the valve. Another valve assembly position is a normally open position and a positive air flow control signal moves the piston to close the valve.

Aperture (125) is selectively covered by a switch mechanism (126) to prevent fluid flow therethrough. Switch mechanism (126) selectively opens valve assembly (98) in response to liquid filling sump (6) and raising float (42) to an operative position. This allows compressed air to pressurise sump (6) and evacuate fluid from sump (6) via outlet pipe (22).

    • A microvalve device is disclosed for controlling fluid flow in a fluid circuit. The microvalve device comprises a body having a bore formed therein. A pilot- operated main valve spool supported by the body is movably disposed in the bore for opening and closing ports formed in the body. A pilot microvalve is operable for controlling movement of the pilot-operated main valve. The pilot microvalve may include a movable valve element that controls the cross-sectional area of two variable orifices in series. When the pilot microvalve is at rest, one orifice is closed and the other is open. Upon actuating the pilot microvalve, the closed orifice may begin to open and the open orifice may begin to close. Pressure between the orifices is used as a command pressure, which is utilized to position the pressure control valve to control load pressure. A method of operating a microvalve device is also disclosed.

    • An automatic drain valve for discharging accumulations of fluids and foreign materials from a fluid handling system. The drain valve (10) comprises a reservoir (14) defining a reservoir volume (15) and a thru-port (28), in fluid communication with the reservoir volume (15), that defines an inlet (30) and terminates in a drainage valve (82) for flowthrough communications with a fluid handling system. An actuating mechanism selectively actuates a valve operator. In the preferred embodiment, a pilot valve (41) is mounted in the reservoir (14) for selectively communicating pressurized air to a valve operator (57), such that the valve operator selectively opens and closes the drainage valve (82) communicating with the outlet (88) of the reservoir (14) for selectively draining the reservoir. The pilot valve (41) includes a sensor tube (42) which defines a valve seat (44) and includes a magnetized valve plug (46) for selectively engaging the valve seat (44), the valve plug (46) having a selected magnetic polarity. A level sensing float (52) disposed within the reservoir (15) carries an annular magnet (56) normally having a polarity opposing that of the valve plug (46) such that the annular magnet (56) acts upon the valve plug (46) selectively opening and closing the pilot valve (81) as the float (52) rises and falls from a raised position to a lower position with the level of liquid within the reservoir (14).
