    • A method for operating a progressive cavity pump in a borehole comprising mounting a stator to a tubing string and inserting the stator and tubing string into a borehole wherein the stator has at least first and second active stator sections that are at different locations on the stator, then performing a first operating phase involving inserting a first rotor into the tubing string until the first rotor is located at a selected downhole position, wherein the first rotor has a first active rotor section that is aligned with the first active stator section when the first rotor is in the selected downhole position, and rotating the first rotor relative to the stator such that the aligned first active rotor and stator sections generate a pumping force. The method also comprises a second operating phase involving removing the first rotor from the borehole, and inserting a second rotor into the tubing string until the second rotor is located at a selected downhole position, wherein the second rotor has a second active rotor section that is aligned with the second active stator section when the second rotor is in the selected downhole location, and rotating the second rotor relative to the stator such that the aligned second active rotor and stator sections generate a pumping force.

    • A fluid controlled pumping system includes a pumping unit (12) disposed within a fluid cavity (13). The pumping unit (12) includes a passage (60) extending to a suction end of the pumping unit. The system also includes a pressure source (72) coupled to the passage (60) and operable to force a fluid outwardly from the passage proximate to the suction end (34) of the pumpimg unit. The system includes a pressure sensor (74) coupled to the passage (60). The system further includes a controller (76) coupled to the pumping unit (12) and operable to regulate an operating parameter of the pumping unit using the fluid pressure. A fluid level controlled pumping system includes a pumping unit (106) disposed within a fluid cavity. The pumping unit includes an inlet (118) operable to receive a fluid to be pumped from the fluid cavity. The system also includes a valve (140) slidably coupled to the pumping unit. The valve (140) includes a passage (160) for receiving pumped fluid from an outlet (122) of the pumping unit. In response to a decreasing fluid level within the fluid cavity, movement of the valve relative to the pumping unit aligns the passage (160) with a port (190) of the pumping unit to recirculate the pumped fluid from the outlet to the inlet.

    • The invention relates to the machine building industry and can be used for reverse-running pulsation-free high-pressure pumps. The aim of the invention is to improve the operating characteristics of pumps of a similar variety ( and the manufacturability thereof). The inventive pump comprises a rotor with orifices and at least two displacers arranged therein, a working chamber, a barrier separating the increasing area from the decreasing area. The working chamber is formed by surfaces of an annular groove embodied in the end of the rotor in such a way that the inner surfaces thereof confine the working chamber in a radial direction and slide into contact with the barrier's surfaces. The orifices of the rotor containing the displacers are oriented in an axial direction and open out onto the annular groove in such a way that the continuations thereof form pockets on the inner surfaces of the groove, thereby confining the working area in the radial direction.

    • A suction pump (22) suitable for use in a fuel dispensing system (20) or other fluid delivery system for volatile liquids. The suction pump includes a pump casing that defines a pump chamber (52) with inlet and outlet ports. A rotor (54) with vanes (58) is seated in the pump chamber. The vanes define fluid cavities (96a, 96b, 96c, ... 96f) that rotate between the inlet and outlet ports. During each turn of the rotor, each fluid cavity passes through a section of the pump chamber in which it is isolated from both the inlet port and outlet port. A bleed duct (102) extends from the outlet port. A bleed port (104) extends from the bleed duct to the section of the pump chamber that defines the isolated position of the fluid cavities. During operation of the pump, pressurized fluid discharged from the outlet port flows through the bleed duct and bleed port into the isolated fluid cavity. This pressurized fluid compresses vapor bubbles in the fluid cavity to prevent their rapid decompression when the cavity is later subjected to additional decompression. This initial decompression of the vapor bubbles reduces the noise generated when the fluid cavity is subjected to rapid compression when it is positioned adjacent the outlet port.

Also, the pump has a control system for controlling delivery of pressurized lubricant to the chambers. The control system includes a control device configured for movement between at least a first control position and a second control position. The control device may include its own housing and/or include discs configured for relative movement. The pivot pin may include grooves for delivering a flow from the outlet to the control system. In the first control position, pressurized lubricant is delivered to the first control chamber and the second control chamber is vented, which increases the output flow of the pump. In the second control position, pressurized lubricant is delivered to the second control chamber and the first control chamber is vented, which decreases the output flow of the pump.
