In one embodiment, an adjustment mechanism may include a first pair of spaced apart rails, a pair of adjustable legs having a first end hingedly coupled to one of a pair of adjustment mechanisms and a second end coupled with a foot. The adjustment mechanisms may be slidably coupled with the rails and in one embodiment, each adjustment mechanism is selectively displaceable along a length of its associated rail only when upward force is absent from the adjustment mechanism, the upward force being defined in a direction from a lower end of the associated rail towards the adjustment mechanism.

    • A telescoping ladder is provided, that includes a plurality of columns disposed in a nested arrangement for relative axial movement in a telescopic fashion between a fully-extended position and a collapsed position. The columns are connected to rungs by way of connector assemblies. Each connector assembly has a locking pin moveable between an extended position or a retracted position for extending into or retracting out of openings of adjacent columns to selectively lock or release the columns respectively. The telescoping ladder includes a plurality of actuators that permit collapsing the ladder in a sequential manner, the sequence involving collapsing the columns on a lower portion of the ladder prior to collapsing columns immediately thereabove.

    • The present invention concerns a safety installation such as a safety ladder, wherein the ladder is fastened to a quay or limitation, and where the ladder is provided with light sources. The invention also concerns a method for identifying, illuminating and operating at least one safety installation. It is the object of the invention to make a safety system visible when it is dark. This can be achieved by a safety ladder if the light sources are designed as light diodes integrated in the bar or bars of the ladder. By integrating the light diodes in the bars of the ladder such that the light diodes are countersunk relative to the surface of the bas, the light diodes will be automatically protected. While at the same time using light diodes emitting light in different directions, the safety installation can be made visible in darkness when viewed from angles encompassing about 180°.

    • A safety apparatus (1) comprises a left part (1) and a right part (20) which are mirror images of each other. The left part (1) comprises a frame (2) having an inner portion (10) with an upper hook (11) and a lower hook (12) for engaging a ladder in-between the ladder rungs. There is a cranked portion (13) in the frame (2), and an outer portion having an arm (15) and a brace (16) splayed out to the side. The arm 15 terminates in a ground-engaging foot (14). Thus, as viewed in plan, the left and right parts are splayed out as best viewed in Fig. 3. A tensioned elasticated rope support (3) has hooks (5, 6) at its ends, the hook (5) engaging the foot (14) and the foot (6) engaging a ladder L rung. An alternative frame (100) has an arm (104) extending at an angle to the plane of the inner end (101) and is bent downwardly so that its end forms a ground foot (105). This arrangement allows a single length of tube to form the inner portion S-shape, the bend for splaying out, the outer portion arm, and the ground-engaging foot. It is therefore of lightweight and high strength construction while being inexpensive to manufacture. The safety apparatus is very easily attached to a ladder. As the ladder 1 is being user there is excellent resistance to slipping and sliding of the ladder away from the wall because there are four ground- engaging feet. Also, there is much reduced risk of the ladder swaying to a side because of the fact that the parts 1 and 20 are splayed out.
