    • Fire alarm extension apparatuses (100) permit actuation of a fire alarm pull switch (11) by persons with a handicap. The fire alarm extension apparatuses (100) each comprise a clip (33) for attachment to a pull lever (14). An elongated member (132) is attached to the clip (33) for permitting movement of the clip (33) and the pull lever while at a remote position. In a first embodiment, the elongated member is a flat rigid shaft mounted to a wall via a mounting block. In a second embodiment, the elongated member (132) is a coated wire which permits pivotal movement of the lever (14) as well as the cover (12) without mechanical stress to the apparatus. The second embodiment has a frictional mechanism (151) for inhibiting movement of the wire for preventing inadvertent actuation of the switch and a mechanism (152) for ensuring that the slanted-L-shaped handle (134) remains in the desired positon.

The switch assembly includes a toggle switch (28), a slider switch (30), and a toggle housing (32), with the toggle housing including at least a first wall (36) having an abutment (56) and a ledge (58), and with the ledge being situated relatively closer to the housing than the abutment. The slider switch includes a slider element (52) that is situated at a location spaced from the housing and disposed generally between the abutment and the ledge. The abutment is structured to resist unintended engagement of the slider element when the toggle switch is being moved between a first orientation and a second orientation.

    • An electronic switch (20) includes a rigid base (26), a circuit board (30) supported by the base (26) which includes an aperture (34) therethrough defined, at least in part, by spaced apart conductive terminals (36) of an electrically conductive circuit, resiliently flexible casing (28) attached to the base (26) and overlying the circuit board (30), and a plunger (32) attached to the casing and extending therefrom through the circuit board aperture (34). The plunger (32) includes a conductive portion (68) which is adjacent to the casing, and a non-conductive portion (70). The casing (28) is resiliently biased so as to normally position the plunger (32) such that the non-conductive portion thereof extends through the circuit board aperture. Depression of the casing (28), however, places the conductive portion (68) within the aperture (34) and into contact with the spaced apart conductive terminals (36) to close the electrically conductive circuit. The electronic switch (20) may be utilized in connection with, for example, a drowsiness warning device which includes a band (24) securable about a wearer's neck. The electronic switch (20) is positioned by the band below a wearer's chin for producing an alarm as the chin contacts and depresses the flexible casing (20) so as to cause the elctrically conductive circuit to close.

The pin and the slider may include features to stabilize the pin and prevent wiggle and wobble of the pin relative to the slider and the earner. The pin may include a protrusion that slides along ribs provided on the slider. The pin may include guides for sliding along the walls of the opening in the slider.

    • A slider switch and a thermostat controller using the same are provided. The switch comprises a base (30), a slider (10), several pins (20) arranged in two rows, and a contact element (12) for electrically connecting a pair of neighboring pins in the same row. A first elastic element (34) and a contact sheet (32) are provided along the glide direction. One end of the first elastic element is connected with the base, the other end of the first elastic element is connected with the contact sheet, and one end surface of the slider adjacent to the contact sheet can be pressed against the contact sheet from a direction opposite to the first elastic element. When each of the contact elements is in contact with a pair of the pins closest to the contact sheet, the contact sheet is separate from the two pins closest to the contact sheet with the pressure from the slider; and when each of the contact elements is in contact with other pins of pins other than those closest to the contact sheet, the contact sheet is pressed against the two pins closest to the contact sheet by the first elastic element. The slider switch can be used for fan control in the thermostat controller as well as occasions requiring switch and connection among multiple circuits.
