    • A disc transport loader system (24) having a plurality of disc transport loaders (23, 25) positionable and independently movably operable within an access channel of a disc storage magazine structure for retrieving and replacing a disc (26) from and to a storage site. Each transport loader has at least one disc transport position (23a, 25a) accessible from at least one side of the loader when that side is adjacent a storage site (18) of the magazine structure. Additionally, each transport loader also has a disc engagement mechanism for transferring or receiving a disc between a first disc transport position (23a) of a first transport loader and an aligned second disc transport position (25a) of an adjacent second transport loader. Delivery and/or retrieval of multiple discs can occur simultaneously from and/or to adjacent storage or drive mechanism sites to thereby enhance time-factor performance.

    • The invention relates to a disc changer (21) for storing disc-shaped information carriers (23a, 23b, 23c) and transporting the information carriers into and out of a scanning position (25) in an information disc player. According to the invention, the disc changer (21) comprises a closed stationary guiding track (29) which is bounded, viewed in a direction perpendicular to a transport direction (X), by a stationary rolling track (33) and a driving member (31). The guiding track has a width (W) which substantially corresponds to a diameter (D) of the information carriers, so that the information carriers stored in the guiding track are rolled along the rolling track by cooperation of the driving member with a circumferential part (53) of the information carriers. In a preferred embodiment, the guiding track is annular and is bounded by a circular cylindrical rolling surface (51) of the rolling track and a roller (35) of the driving member, said roller being rotatable about an axis of rotation (37) coinciding with a common central axis (39) of the guiding track and the rolling track. The driving member is the only part of the disc changer that is rotatable, and the disc changer does not have any further displaceable parts. Since the driving member only has a relatively small moment of inertia relative to the axis of rotation, a mechanical torque to be exerted on the driving member for transporting the information carriers is considerably limited.

    • A compact disc loader and transport apparatus (124) for transporting selected compact discs. The loader and transport apparatus of a first embodiment has a plurality of disc engagers (140, 142, 152, 154) for cooperative frictional rotational engagement of a compact disc (126) presented thereto at at least two edge sites of the disc. Each engager is mounted at at a periphery site of a respective motor driven rotatable platform (144, 146, 148, 150) whose rotation in cooperation with the rotation of at least one other platform moves the disc from or to a disc transport position of the apparatus. The apparatus can then travel for delivery and/or further disc retrieval. In a second embodiment, the loader and transport apparatus has two laterally adjacent disc transport positions and the disc can be further transported between transport positions.
