    • An electronic music system has an input device (12), one or more computer storage media, a rhythm generator (100), a pitch selector (108), and a sound generator (102). The input device (12) generates rhythm-related input signals and pitch-related input signals in response to manipulations of the input device (12) by a user attempting to create and play a solo. The computer storage media have a plurality of user-selectable musical accompaniment tracks over which the user can create and play the solo and a plurality of rhythm blocks wherein each rhythm block defines, for at least one note, at least a time at which the note should be played. The computer storage media also store at least a portion of the solo created by the user over a predetermined time interval in the immediate past. The rhythm generator (100) receives the rhythm-related input signals from the input device (12), selects one of the rhythm blocks from the computer storage media based on the rhythm-related input signals, and outputs an instruction to play the note at the time defined by the selected rhythm block. The pitch selector (108) receives the pitch-related input signals from the input device (12) and selects an appropriate pitch based on the pitch-related input signals, the user-selected musical accompaniment track, and the stored solo information. The pitch selector (108) then outputs that appropriate pitch. The sound generator (102) receives instructions from the rhythm generator (100), pitches from the pitch selector (108), and the user-selected musical accompaniment track and generates an audio signal representative of the user-created solo and the accompaniment track.

    • Electronic polyphonic music apparatus employing digital music synthesis circuitry. A preferred embodiment of the apparatus includes three digitally-controlled tone generators (200, 300, 400) which simultaneously produce three signals of independently selected frequencies. The generators (200, 300, 400) operate in response to a tone generator controller (150) which produces digital signals for controlling the rest or off period of each of the generators and frequency control circuitry for producing digital signals for controlling the tone or frequency of each of the generators. The output of each of three tone generators is coupled to a single digitally-controlled variable attenuator bank (205) by way of multiplexer circuitry (201, 202, 203). The tone generators are controlled so that only one generator is coupled to a given attenuator at any given time. The output of the attenuator bank is connected to an audio transducer (700) through a conventional audio amplifier (600). Also disclosed is a structure bonding the circuitry in LSI format to the transducer.

    • The musical work is represented on a digital medium in the form of a database (150) comprising a plurality of fixed musical sequences, and a template comprising a plurality of sequence positions. Each sequence position may represent one track of a musical arrangement, such as the performance of one instrumental group, or a musical solo. The various tracks are intended to be played simultaneously, in parallel. In addition, some of the sequence positions may represent fixed-length, partial segments of a single track that are intended to be played serially. Using a menu-driven, graphical interface, a user interactively selects a plurality of the fixed musical sequences, as desired, and allocates the selected sequences among the various fixed sequence positions specified by the template. The musical sequences are then combined in accordance with the user's selections, thus creating a new arrangement of the musical work. In this way, users of varying levels of sophistication can be given a musically structured framework for interactively constructing new arrangements of recorded musical works.

    • The invention refers to the acoustic phenomenon visualisation procedure involving the tranformation of an acoustic signal into a visual signal and offering a solution for recording the respective transformation to a physical medium, e.g. video, CD, or for application at direct transmission. The acoustic phenomenon visualisation procedure provides for the fact that the signal and/or element of the acoustic phenomenon (1i) is directly transcribed with the pattern (Ai), on the screen field (E) of the computer (4i); such transformed substance of the elements of an acoustic phenomenon (1i) in the form of various association patterns (Ai), reaction colour as well as change of shape and colour is currently stored in the processor (5i), whereupon, after the transformation is completed, the summing integrator (7) activates the contents of all processors (5i) into a uniform signal which is recorded on a physical medium or directly transmitted. The procedure referred to in this invention is used for transformations of an acoustic phenomenon (1i) into a script similar in meaning and shape to neumes.
