    • Novel type of hollow or solid pads for high precision obturating of any wind instrument provided with a mechanism. The invention provides a solution to the problems of leakage, condensation and adjustment associated with such instruments. The pad consists of a rigid base (1) with a non-rigid washer (2) resting thereon, the whole being covered with a fluocarbonaceous resin film folded back over the side (3). The rigid base (1) of the solid pad is cone-shaped, while the base of the hollow pad is rounded on the edge, the central hole being slightly flared at the base.

The control means guide the closure member for movement between a closed position in which the opening is closed by the closure member and an open position in which the opening is left clear. The closure member comprises a plate of stiff material which is provided on the side facing toward the opening with sealing material and which in the closed position engages sealingly around the opening. The closure member is connected to the control means by yieldable means.

    • A rotary valve (10) for a brass wind instrument includes a rotor (12) rotatably disposed in a casing (30). Four tube connectors (50) are connected to the casing in fluid-tight connections. The rotor (12) is selectively rotatable between an unactuated position and an actuated position. When the rotor (12) is in the unactuated position, a single soundpath (70) is formed through the valve. The single soundpath (70) has limited curvature and has a constant diameter. When the rotor (12) is in the actuated position, two soundpaths (72, 74) are formed through the valve (10). The first of the two soundpaths (72) subjects the sound to only a single 45 degree turn through the valve.
