    • Development fluid extends up to and contacts the underside of the transparent cover (18). The normal height of the fluid is shown by line (36). A leading edge (18A) of the cover is inclined upwardly and includes a cut-out portion (38). As a result of surface tension, the meniscus of the chemical rises up into the cut-out portion (38). As the leading edge of the plate part is beneath the inclined leading edge (18A), the top surface of the plate comes into contact with the chemical at the region where the curved line formed by the surface tension of the chemical (40) extends into the cut-out portion to coat the plate in a straight line across the width of the machine.

    • The present invention provides a processor for photographic material, comprising a tray (1) for receiving photographic material to be processed having an inlet to receive processing solution. The processor also has a member for spreading the processing solution over the photographic material to be processed. The member (2) is arranged for reciprocating motion relative to the tray, and is mounted such that as the spreading member reciprocates relative to the tray, processing solution is spread and re-spread repeatedly over the material. The invention also provides a method of photographic processing in which a spreading member is arranged to move in reciprocating motion relative to a tray containing photographic material to be processed. As the member (2) reciprocates the processing solution is spread and re-spread repeatedly over the photographic material thereby processing said photographic material.

    • The invention relates to a processor for photographic material comprising a large number of processing tanks (1-9), through which the photographic material to be processed passes in sequence and in which photographic processing solutions, such as in particular, developer, bleach, fix and stabiliser solutions are provided. The processor also comprises a pump and conduit system for pumping the processing solutions that are used from storage containers for the processing solutions and water from a water tank into the processing tanks. A replenishment pump (41-47) and a corresponding replenishment conduit (31-37) are provided for each storage container (11-16) and the water tank (24). A control unit (50) for the replenishment pumps interacts with the level sensors (S1-S6) that are allocated to the storage containers, in such a way that the replenishment process is stopped when one of the storage containers is empty. An additional pump (71-73) and a corresponding additional conduit (61-63), which are controlled by the control unit (50), are provided at least for each of the storage containers that hold the photographic developer solution (11-13). Said pump and conduit can be used to automatically pump residual quantities of the processing solutions held in these storage containers (11-13) out of said containers. All remaining storage containers can be emptied, leaving no residue, using the replenishment pumps (74-76). The automatic emptying of the storage containers without residue simplifies the treatment of said storage containers and in particular, simplifies their disposal, thus making the latter less expensive.
