    • The invention relates to an A-frame step ladder which includes two hingedly connected frame-like members (12, 14) that have collapsible stay members (16) acting between them that determine the A-frame configuration of the step ladder. Each frame-like member includes a pair of stiles (14, 18) and cross members (20) holding the stiles in a required spaced configuration, the cross members of one of the frame-like members forming the rungs of the ladder. The frame-like member including the rungs of the ladder includes two elongate, substantially parallel, spaced apart guide formations (28) that extend along the length of the respective stiles and within which arms (34) of an extension member (30) are slidably displaceable. The arms carry a support formation (32) that is locatable in different positions above the top rung of the ladder by the displacement of the arms in the guide formations. Locating means releasably locates the support formation in its different positions.

A latch portion (30) is alternatively movable from a closed position substantially within the latch housing (28) and is movable into a closed position contactable with at least one of the base section rungs (18) in an open position. A spring mechanism (60) biases the latch portion into the open position contactable with at least one of the base section rungs (18).

    • A ladder support assembly including a base frame having first and second ends and a pair of pivot supports extending from the base frame which support a rod configured to pivotally support a ladder relative to the base frame. A pivot frame is pivotally mounted to the base frame and is biased away from the base frame. A bracket assembly is pivotally mounted to the pivot frame and includes a pair of bracket plates. Each bracket plate has an inner flange and outer flange with a ladder rail receiving area between the inner and outer flanges. The ladder receiving area is configured such that the bracket plate is slidable relative to a respective ladder rail received therein. A crank assembly includes a spool rotatably supported on the base frame and a cord wound about the spool with a free end of the cord connected to the bracket assembly. Rotation of the spool in a first direction takes up the cord and causes the pivot frame to pivot toward the base frame, thereby raising the ladder toward a raised position. Rotation of the spool in a second, opposite direction causes the cord to be let out and the pivot frame to pivot away from the base frame, thereby lowering the ladder toward a lowered transport position.

    • A ground rod and guy stake extractor according to the present approach overcomes many deficiencies of contemporary methods, and allows for the rapid extraction of ground rods and guy stakes across a full range of environments, and at a wide range of extraction angles, with a straight pull on the item being extracted. Embodiments may be lightweight, easily transported, and operated by a single individual. Embodiments may include a winch, winch cable system, and support structure. The geometry is such that it is easy and straight forward to align the direction of pull with any rod or ground stake, and particularly for those driven into the ground within the commonly prescribed angular limits, thus assuring a continuous, steady pull of at least four feet in most embodiments. Guy stakes can therefore be easily extracted in one step, and typically ground rods (because of their length) in two steps.
