    • The artificial reef of the present invention is constructed from a plurality of structural units each of which is a tetrahedron-shaped sandbag, which are arranged in a talus pile. The reefs are formed by dropping the structural units in the desired locations. The tetrahedron-shape of the structural units provides a self-interlocking structure which can be placed en mass on the sea floor without individual alignment of each bag. The geometry of the reef structure is a sloped bar, a parallel bar (4, 4'), or a V-shaped bar, or combinations thereof. The parallel bars, which run parallel to the shoreline, trap standing waves between the bars to reinforce the incoming waves with a maximum energy focused where the rays of trapped waves cross the wave rays of the incoming swell. A multiple V-shaped bar configuration, with the apex of the V pointing diagonal to the incoming waves create Bragg reflection patterns which cause crossing wave rays to form local concentrations of wave energy.

    • Apparatus for increasing the velocity of water or liquids containing water, comprising structural means (10, 110-116) interposed in the path of water faow or moving relative to the water. The structural means includes at least one side wall (12, 110) which is longitudinally curved from a diverting point (16, 118) at the outer end thereof to a gradually flattened curve at the inner end thereof. The wall is transversely curved from a generally planar surface at the outer end thereof to a curvature approaching circular at the inner end thereof. The velocity of the water or liquid is thereby substantially increased. Such velocity enhancement can be utilized for the generation or electrical energy or for collecting and separating oil or other pollutants from water. In this latter use, a vessel (100) is propelled through the water, and the increased velocity permits the water-pollutant mixture to be delivered to separating equipment (132) without pumping assistance.

    • A wave collector structure (51) for electrical power generation powered by wave energy comprises an outwardly extending and downwardly depending lip (105, 107) below which is situated a mouth (61, 67) of the collector. The collector further comprises side walls (75, 79) for channelling waves into the collector mouth. These side walls (75, 79) extend horizontally substantially up to or beyond the lip, partially enclosing a volume of water between the lip and side walls. The collector is placed in its desired location by sealing the mouth (61, 67) with gates (not shown) and floating the structure to its desired location. Control valves are opened to allow water into the collector to sink the structure to the sea bed (63) whereupon the gates are removed.

    • A sea water pipe system is disclosed which comprises a sea pipe (1) connected to an intake pipe (2) at the onshore end and with inlet pipes (3) at the offshore end. A grille (13) is preferably secured over each inlet pipe (3) to prevent solid matter from flowing into the sea pipe (1). As the incoming tide rises, sea water is drawn into intake pipe (2) at tide level 4 and flows into pond (5). A second pond (7) is constructed adjacent pond (5) to allow water to overflow from pond (5) into pond (7). An outlet pipe (8) may extend from pond (7) to the sea with an outlet valve (22) being used to prevent water from an incoming tide being drawn through outlet pipe (8) into pond (7). The outlet valve (22) may be opened at low tide to allow waste water to drain from the ponds.
