    • The present invention provides a gel fuel, which includes a fuel substance held in a polymeric structure. One embodiment of the composition includes neat methanol, to which a thickening substance, such as that sold commercially under the trade name Carbopol(R), is added to impart viscosity, as well as stabilizing and suspending properties. In addition to the thickening substance, a further substance can be added to balance the pH of the gel fuel when needed. In accordance with the invention, a fuel cell cartridge is provided that has at least one aspect that is methanol-permeable, and which may include a fuel vapor permeable layer and it may be comprised of one of a number of various alternative materials. Features within the fuel cartridge can be used to increase surface area of the gel fuel, and to maintain the gel fuel in a desired location within the cartridge.

    • The present invention relates to a gel-type pocket fuel composition which is readily usable for cooking or rescue outdoors, is conveniently carried, and requires no individual device for combustion, and a process for preparing the same. The fuel composition comprises 55 SIMILAR 95 wt.% of methanol, 4.5 SIMILAR 15 wt.% of nitrocellulose having not more than 12.2% of nitrification value, 0.5 SIMILAR 5 wt.% of siloxane, 0 SIMILAR 5 wt.% of starch and 0 SIMILAR 20 wt.% of water. The fuel composition according to the present invention can be conveniently carried by simply charging in a non-pressureproof vessel such as a squeezable tube, a plastic or tin-can vessel. The fuel immediately starts combustion by direct ignition at once upon squeezing it on the ground, ice, snow, rock or charcoal and the flame is not affected by humidity or wind. It requires no individual combustion device, produces no odor or color during combustion, and is unexplosive.

    • The invention is a fuel medium. The medium is in a gel state and consists entirely of material from vegetable matter in combination with alcohol, primarily ethanol, although other low carbon alcohol may be used in combination with some water. This blend is made into a gel by the addition of Methyl Hydroxyl Propyl Cellulose (MHPC). When spilled, the gel is biodegradable and not harmful to the environment. During combustion the gel is smokeless, without soot, devoid of noxious gas emissions, non-carcinogenic and non-corrosive. The gel form makes for ease of packaging, as fuel for suitable cooking and barbeque/fire lighter units, and the reduction of ash makes for easy maintenance of these units. Ease of packaging makes the product easy to transport, thereby offering flexibility of use. The low cost of production, due to the efficacy of the MHPC, makes the present invention affordable to low-income earners.
