    • A method of stabilizing the molecular ends of an oxymethylene copolymer with the use of an extruder comprising a casing provided with feed and delivery ports and at least two longitudinally extending rotating shafts, the extruder being provided, in the inside, with a melting zone, an end-stabilizing reaction zone and a devolatilizing zone in this order from the feed port toward the delivery port and further provided, in the area having a length of 2-15D (D being the inner diameter of the casing) in the end-stabilizing reaction zone, with a number of kneading elements having a thickness of 0.1-0.3D fixed to the rotating shafts in the longitudinal direction thereof in order to knead a crude oxymethylene copolymer in a molten state in the presence of a basic substance in the above reaction zone to thereby decompose the unstable molecular ends of the crude copolymer. The method enables the molecular ends of a crude oxymethylene copolymer to be stabilized in a short time efficiently and substantially completely.

    • A process for producing a stabilized oxymethylene copolymer which comprises treating a crude oxymethylene copolymer in an extruder (A) equipped with an end-stabilizing zone and a vacuum devolatilizing zone to prepare an end-stabilized oxymethylene copolymer, melt-kneading polyoxymethylene and a stabilizer and/or an additive in another extruder (B), and feeding the melt-kneaded mixture as such to a place behind the devolatilizing zone of the extruder (A) in such a manner that the weight ratio of the polyoxymethylene fed from the extruder (B) to the crude oxymethylene copolymer to be end-stabilized in the extruder (A) will be 1:3 to 1:45 to thereby knead the polyoxymethylene, the stabilizer and/or the additive, and the end-stabilized oxymethylene copolymer.

    • A modified polyacetal obtained by heating 100 pts.wt. of a polyacetal component (A) together with 0.1 - 30 pts.wt. of a polymerizable compound (B) having a modifying group such as an epoxy, carboxyl or acid anhydride group to thereby introduce the modifying group into the polyacetal. The component (A) includes a polyacetal (A1) selected from among polyoxymethylene homopolymer and copolymers and a polymerizable polyacetal (A2) having functional groups containing a polymerizable unsaturated bond. The efficiency of introduction of the modifying group can be improved by adding 0.01 - 2.5 pts.wt. of a free-radical initiator to 100 pts.wt. in total of the components (A) and (B) and mixing in a state in which the polyacetal is molten. This process ensures simple and efficient introduction of the modifying group into the polyacetal component and improves the affinity of the polyacetal.
