Les solutions solvantes d'hydrocarbures desdits composés, spécialement lorsque ces solvants sont aliphatiques ou cycloaliphatiques, présentent des avantages prononcés par rapport aux solutions solvantes d'hydrocarbures conventionnelles de ces composés en tant que catalyseurs ou déclencheurs de réactions de polymérisation, de télomérisation, de métalation, d'échange halogène-métal, et dans la préparation d'alkyles de magnésium. Des économies sensibles sur le coût sont également réalisées lors de la préparation des composés, étant donné le coût considérablement inférieur des halogénures d'éthyle utilisés pour appliquer la présente invention par rapport au coût des autres halogénures d'alkyle.
