    • A process is proposed for treating and utilising biomasses and biogenic sludges such as sewage sludge. The invention addresses the problem of designing a simple and low-energy process for treating sewage and other biological sludges which requires no heating and results in a product with low water content and high mechanical strength and fertiliser value. The product must also be odourless, storable, pourable and easy to dispense in measured amounts in order to be of direct use in agriculture, and possess long-term fertilising properties. The problem is solved by a process for the production of fertilisers and soil improvers from sewage sludge: sewage sludge which has already undergone dewatering is mixed with a laminar silicate binder which can swell and fine to coarse grained rock-, aerated concrete- or wood dust. The mixture is then mixed thoroughly in a high-pressure-agglomeration device with rollers and forced through pressing channels with a release of frictional energy to produce temperatures of over 100 DEG C; the product is then hygienized and an organic-inorganic structural matrix is formed. Subsequent drying is unnecessary.

    • A composition and method for controlling odor in organic waste material by placing an effective amount of a clay filter material containing a non-petroleum based oil in a location proximate to the organic waste material which is producing an offensive odor. The clay filter material immediately absorbs any odor given off by the organic waste material and provides the environment with a clean non-offensive scent for extended periods of time. The clay filter material contains a natural clay component and a non-petroleum oil component which have been blended and subjected to sufficiently high temperatures to render the clay filter material effective for eliminating the odor from organic waste material. The clay filter material may be in the form of fibers, pellets, granules, tablets, powder, or solution. The invention also includes a highly effective organic fertilizer or nutrient rich animal feed which is composed of manure and clay filter material which is substantially free of any offensive odor or smell. The fertilizer or animal feed of the present invention can be manufactured as hardened pellets or granules, as well as in the powdered, fines, or fibrous forms which are commonly available. The fertilizer has a high bulk density, and slowly releases essential nutrients into the soil over an extended period of time.

    • The artificial fertilizer stimulates the supply of phosphorus and potassium to the plant. The artificial fertilizer, according to the invention, is characterized by a certain ratio of silicon derivated compounds; it comprises particularly a ratio from 2 to 10 % by weight, based on SiO2. The preferred compound based on silicon derivatives forming part of the composition of the artificial fertilizer according to the invention is siliceous earth. Said silicon derivative compound ratio in the artificial fertilizer in question provides for the supply to the plant of all the phosphorous contained in the phosphorated compounds of the fertilizer in question: as a fact, it is not the phosphorus-containing ions but the silicon derivative ions which are bound with the earth (and it is precisely this bond with the earth which was heretofore the main cause of the lack of supply of phosphorus-containing compounds to the plant). The invention further relates to the method for manufacturing such artificial fertilizer; it also encompasses the use of silicon derivative compounds as fertilizer adjuvants stimulating the supply of phosphorus and potassium to the plant.
