摘要： An active optical fibre, including: a core; an inner cladding substantially surrounding the core, whereby the core and the inner cladding form an area configured to propagate pump radiation; an outer cladding comprised of at least a third material with at least a third refractive index substantially surrounding the inner cladding, the third refractive index being smaller than the second refractive index, whereby the outer cladding confines pump radiation to the core and the inner cladding; and a coating comprised of a thermally conductive material substantially surrounding the outer cladding, wherein the inner cladding is configured to reduce impact of spatial hole-burning on absorption of the pump radiation as the pump radiation propagates through the active optical fibre, and wherein the thermally conductive material of the coating supports a reduced temperature increase between the area and an outer surface of the coating.

摘要： The present invention relates to compositions comprising the reaction product of amorphous silica or ultra-fine silica and one or more bases. The present invention also relates to materials and method involving the use of such products. In particular, the present invention i.a. relates to new mineral wool products, e.g. products comprising man-made vitreous fibres (such as glass fibres, slag fibres, stone fibres and rock fibres) or perlite, having included therein a binder component which comprises amorphous silica and aklali metal organosiliconates, e.g. potassium methyl siliconate. An important feature of such products is the preparation of the binder systems under vigorous mixing. Such products provide good fire, heat and sound insulating properties. The present invention also provides to a method for removing odorous substances from a gas where materials prepared from ultra-fine silica, water, and one or more components enabling porosity-conferring binding of the material, e.g. a base or bases. Furthermore, the invention provides methods for thixotroping bitumen.

摘要： A method of forming a preform which has a glass core (10) surrounded by an outer glass cladding (16) with a coating (18) of an optically active material disposed between the core (10) and cladding (16). The method includes providing a glass core (10) having a viscosity which lies within a given preselected temperature range, followed by forming a substantially homogeneous coating (18) of an optically active material over the surface of the core, with the coating having a viscosity which is equal to or less than the viscosity of the glass core. A glass cladding (16) is formed over the coated layer (18), with the cladding (16) having a viscosity which overlaps the viscosity of the core glass (10) and a thermal coefficent of expansion compatible with that of the core. The optically active material is an inorganic material which includes a metal, metal alloy, ferrite, magnetic material or a semiconductor. The invention includes the product formed by the process.
