摘要： A method and apparatus (10) is provided for opening sheets of a signature (7) preparatory to its transport to a thread sewing machine. A plurality of suction plates (30, 32, 34, 36) are spaced from a conveying surface (12), each suction plate having a working surface facing the conveying surface. A plurality of emergent plates (58, 60, 62, 64) are provided alongside the conveying surface and are substantially coplanar thereto. The suction plates have respective pivotal mounts (86, 88, 90, 92) proximate their midpoints. At or about the time the signature is positioned in proximity to a suction plate an associated emergent plate is actuated to present the signature to the suction plate, bringing a signature sheet into engagement with the working surface of the suction plate. Shortly therafter, the suction plate pivots, causing unopened sheets to move away from the engaged sheet to open the signature.

摘要： Method of gathering signatures wherein signatures lying face to face in a stack and standing on the back edge, are fed to a delivery position with the face engaging an abutment (15). The signature (S1) in the delivery position is pushed up so that it projects from the stack at the opposite edge. Then, it is gripped at said edge so as to be carried by a continuous movement in an unchanged moving direction successively through the steps of being extracted from the stack, turned upside-down and opened while being deposited upon a conveyor path (11). The invention also relates to a machine for gathering signatures comprising means (16) for feeding the signatures in the manner described above to the delivery position. A device (32) having carriers (33, 34) to be engaged with the face of the signature (S1) in the delivery position, can be reciprocated along the plane of the signature in the delivery position to lift said signature to a position wherein the opposite edge projects from the stack tangentially to one (22) of two drums (22, 23) forming part of the extraction means, said drums having grippers (26, 27, 28, 29) and being continuously rotated about parallel axes in opposite rotational directions.

摘要： A method of inserting supplements into newspapers or magazines (20) and a general method of opening newspapers or magazines prior to the insertion process entail separate newspapers being transported in open state through an insertion station. The spines of the newspapers are held in firm contact with pocketlike holders (14, 45) on a conveyor (10) and the holders (14, 45) are caused to temporarily open when they pass the insertion station (60, 61), the firm contact between newspaper (20) and holders being still maintained. Apparatus for performing the method comprises a conveyor (10) and an insertion arrangement (60, 61) with means (14, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26) to open each newspaper (20) and means (60, 61) to insert a supplement into the opened newspaper. The apparatus may also include a second conveyor (40) with separate grippers (45) for each newspaper. The conveyor (40) extends through the conveyor (10). The apparatus also includes means (P11, P12, P13) to temporarily open each gripper during its passage through the insertion station (60, 61; P12) of the insertion equipment. The apparatus furthermore includes means (46) to maintain orientation and position of the newspaper in relation to the gripper (45) while the latter is open in the insertion station (P12).
