    • A number of product feeders comprise a conveyor (20) underlying a friction wheel (24) operated by a pulsed drive. A continuously rotating drive shaft (42) is coupled to a selected feeder (11) by a controller (80) coupling a drive wheel (38) on the drive shaft (42) with a drive transmission wheel (22) associated with the conveyor (20) of the feeder (11). This may be effected by an air cylinder (48b) of the feeder (11) operating under control of the controller (80) to move the drive transmission wheel (22) into a position whereat it is driven by the drive wheel (38). Alternatively, the drive wheel (38) may be clutched under control of the controller (80). The pulsed friction wheel (24) rotates through an arc in order to drop a product (18) from a stack (12) of products partially supported by the friction wheel (24) onto the the now moving conveyor (20). A downstream product sensor (62), when sensing that a product (18) has been delivered, signals the controller (80) so that the controller (80) decouples the conveyor (20) from the drive shaft (42).

    • A dispenser for tickets comprises a feed hopper and a high speed drive mechanism. Tickets are dispensed from a hopper by means of a dispensing unit comprising a drive roller and an accelerator roller. The rollers are driven by a motor capable of dynamic braking and the rollers are adapted to operate at different speeds. The dispenser also comprises an infrared sensor, which counts the number of cards being dispensed. The dispenser is capable of accurate and high speed vending of tickets. A microprocessor circuit is used to control the drive motor, process signals from the sensor and monitor the inventory level in the feed hopper.

    • A method for separating articles, such as paper or plastics sheets or envelopes, from a stack (9), and apparatus for carrying out this method. A feed roller (6) periodically feeds an outer article to a conveyor roller (2) opposite which a separation surface (3) is disposed. The pressure force of the feed roller (6) on the stack (9) is reduced when an article supplied is being carried off by the conveyor roller (2). The object of the invention is to provide such a method which can be carried out reliably with a simple construction. According to the invention, each time an article (8) is carried off by the conveyor roller (2), the feed roller (6) is carried along by said article (8) as long as the feed roller (6) bears on that article (8). The force with which the feed roller (6) bears on the stack (9) is then enhanced by the action of frictional force which is exerted by the feed roller (6) on an article (8) to be carried off.

    • Apparatus for successively feeding individual cards from a card stack includes a hopper having leading and trailing wall members constructed to constrain a card stack therebetween, leading and trailing wall lips constructed to support the leading and trailing portions of the bottom card of the card stack. An opening is provided between the two wall lips. The leading and trailing walls are configured to cause the cards of the stack to be bowed so that the unsupported middle portion of the bottom card of the stack is vertically offset from its supported portions and extends through the opening. The apparatus also includes a roller which when it rotates in one direction engages the unsupported portion of the card of the stack and while the trailing portion of such card is held in the hopper moves the leading portion of the bottom card clear of the hopper. The direction of rotation of the roller is then reversed and the card is fed into a feed path clear of the hopper.
