    • A very stiff mounting structure comprises at least three pyramidally disposed rod-like members (1a, 1b, 1c) rigidly coupled together at one end (4d) and with their other ends rigidly coupled to a base (22) either to stiffen the base and/or to mount a device such as a tool or instrument with respect to it. Three pyramidally disposed members (1a, 1b, 1c) may be mounted on a tetrahedral base (22), or four such members on respective corners of a square pyramid, to form therewith a framework in which to mount, for example, a machine tool or measuring instrument, the base preferably being formed of similar rod-like members; or the base may be a plate or other structure of a separately existing machine or other entity.

    • The device for guiding and driving movable mechanical members having particularly a linear displacement is comprised of standardized mechanical components, made of thin bent sheet metal, making possible to obtain particularly combinations of very light carriages which may be arranged according to a plurality of displacement axes and planes perpendicular between each other such as carriages (173, 174, 178). The main carriage (173), shaped like an angle plate, moves in a long path on skewed rails (158, 159) formed by tubular sections having a square cross-section of calibrated drawn steel, the carriage moving by means of rollers (160) profiled like a hollow double cone at 90°, elastically suspended, mounted on supports (170, 171) fixed to said carriages. The carriages (174, 178) move on the carriage (173) perpendicularly to the latter, one (174) vertically and the other (178) horizontally, on cylindrical guiding rods by means of elastically suspended bearing rings (176). The elastically suspended bearing rings and rollers absorb the flexion stress and the false parallelisms as well as the mounting defects. Said carriages are driven by motor assemblies of the nut and screw type with variable pitch and consisting of a helical spring engaged on a smooth shaft and acting as a screw, the nut being elastically connected to the carriage. At each stroke end, an indexing means effects an accurate repositionning of the carriages with respect to the operational members with which they cooperate, said operational members being for example a circular plate also made of bent metal sheet with a drawn annular ball race.
