    • The invention relates to a rolling system for producing tubes without welded joints, comprising: a drill (7) for drilling a billet and obtaining a blank (2); a continuous mill (8) for rolling the blank (2), said mill (8) comprising a plurality of roll housings (20), each roll housing (20) comprising at least two rolls (5); and a mandrel (21) that is fixed during the rolling, said mandrel (21) comprising a plurality of profiled rings (22) interconnected by intermediate tubes (23), the profiled rings (22) having an outside diameter larger than the diameter of the intermediate tubes (23) and increasing cage-by-cage in the direction of rolling. The system is characterised in that each of the at least two roll (5) comprises a channel having a curvature radius for forming an essentially round gauge for producing an essentially round section of the blank (2). The rolling system is simple and light, incurs less production, installation and maintenance costs than conventional rolling systems, ensures better quality and reduces pollution.

    • The present invention provides a controlled rolling method of a seamless steel tube excellent in strength and low-temperature toughness to be applied to a process of making a seamless steel tube, and this controlled rolling method comprises performing piercing-rolling in the recrystallization region of the γ phase (approximately 950°C or more); performing elongation rolling and reducing rolling within the non-recrystallization region of the γ phase (950°C to Ar3 transformation point) in the elongation rolling step and in the reducing rolling step; and performing controlled cooling or quenching immediately after the reducing rolling. If a sizer is used in the reducing rolling step, the rolling in the (α + γ) dual phase temperature region (Ar3 transformation point to Ar1 transformation point) is carried out in the reducing rolling step. The present controlled rolling method can solve problems of significant increase in hot deformation resistance and significant deterioration of hot deformability (hot workability) due to low-temperature rolling, and can produce a seamless steel tube excellent in strength and low-temperature toughness, along with use of a controlled cooling method.

    • A tool (10, 100) is provided for working a shaped metal tube (12), such as a square or rectangular metal tube, having a hollow interior and an outer surface to produce an end reduction in the tube. The tool (10, 100) includes a head (30, 116) having a longitudinally extending interior cavity (32, 120) and a plurality of roller cavities, each communicating with the interior cavity. A plurality of grooved rollers are rotatably mounted within the head, one within each of the roller cavities. Each of the grooved rollers has a preiphery (54) extending into the interior cavity and configured to engage a portion of the outer surface of the tube to be reduced, such as a corner portion (18). Depending upon the shape of the tube being reduced, the tool may further include a pair of flat-area rollers (132). The flat-area rollers may be used to engage the relatively long sides of a rectangular tube (102). The tool further includes a mandrel (64, 134) disposed within the interior cavity of the head. The mandrel being effective for preventing the tube from collapsing as a result of the end reduction.
