    • A two-stage electrostatic separation device in the form of an electrostatic filter cartridge (6) with a built-in neutralizer, which cartride can be incorporated in a tubular or rectangular casing (1). It is formed of foil electrodes (7) which are at different voltages and are separated by insulating foils (8). Ionization of the particles to be separated is effected via a UV source and/or in the space between an earthed grid electrode (4) and the edge of the foil electrode (7), which is at a high voltage, a high ion density being created in said space. The ionized particles are separated in the electrostatic filter cartridge (6) forming the collector. At the gas outlet from the electrostatic filter cartridge (6) a corona discharge with both ion polarities is produced between the earthed electrodes and the foil electrodes (7) which are at a high voltage (9), and thereby the operation of a neutralization zone (17) for the filtered gas stream is ensured.

    • The present invention utilizes a vortex tube for separating the isotopes. A gas mixture containing the isotopic molecules, with or without a carrier gas, enters the vortex tube under pressure and is separated into a hot discharge flow stream and a cold discharge flow stream. The hot discharge is enriched in lighter isotopic molecules whereas the cold discharge flow stream is enriched in the heavier isotopic molecules. The vortex tube can be used in a single stage or multistage isotope separation apparatus. An electromagnetic beam may be used in conjunction with one or more vortex tubes to selectively and simultaneously excite the vibrational mode of other than the major isotopic components.
