    • During refining/beating of beating material there exists a need to measure more parameters than the gap, directly in the beating zone. The present invention makes this possible and it relates to a system for continuous measuring of pressure and temperature in the beating zone and the system is characterized in that a number of separate/combined pressure sensors or temperature sensors provided with cables are applied on or in at least one of the homogeneous beating discs or, beating discs constructed of segments, of the refiner along the active radius of the beating disc, alternatively are arranged in at least one position between, alternatively between and in, two of the segments being present in the beating disc along the active radius of the beating disc and that the cables are collected into a bunch of cables or are transformed into another cable and leave the beating disc via a hole therein, if the beating disc is stationary, to be connected to a possible detecting unit and a subsequent presentation unit, alternatively, if the beating disc rotates, that the bunch of cables/the cable is connected to a collector shoe arranged against the shaft of the refiner with further connection according to the above.

    • A bearing system in a refiner for making pulp, where the raw material is refined in a refining gap between at least one pair of refining members (22, 24) rotating relative to one another, where at least one of said refining members (24) is supported by an axially movable and rotary shaft (26). Signal characteristics further track refiner plate wear and detect the occurrence of "critical gap" (F) as well as the onset of plate clash.

    • The present invention provides a regulator (110) for a refiner or grinding apparatus having opposed relatively rotatable grinding discs (28, 30). Each grinding disc (28, 30) carries a grinding segment, and a predetermined gap or grinding space is defined between the grinding segments. The regulator (110), which is provided to compensate for axial variations in the predetermined grinding space due to variations of the load, includes a piston (100) axially movable in a cylinder (102) and a calibrated resilient element (108) acting on the piston (100). The regulator (110) is coupled to a hydraulic servo motor (38) for the grinding discs (28, 30), and the dimensions of the piston (100) and cylinder (102) of the regulator (110) are selected to correspond to that of the servo motor (38), but in reduced scale. By calibrating the resilient element (108) of the regulator to correspond to the axial load applied to the grinding discs (28, 30), the displacement of the regulator piston (100) corresponds to the relative displacement of the grinding disc and thus to a variation in the grinding space between the grinding discs (28, 30). Variations in the grinding space are instantaneously and continuously counteracted by the regulator (110) to maintain the grinding space at its predetermined value.
