摘要： A grid (1) and a vat (4) for a vat assembly of a vertical filter press such as a tower press is disclosed. The grid (1) is provided with a topographical pattern (3) engaging with a corresponding, inverse topographical pattern (8) on the filtrate vat (4). The topographical patterns (3, 8) guide the filtrate flow towards a filtrate outlet (7) and reduces the formation of vortices and turbulent flow of the filtrate, hence increasing the filtrate flow rate through the vat. Simultaneous, the topographical patterns (3, 8) improve secure attachment of the grid (1) onto the vat (4), thereby allowing increased travel speed of the filter medium during advancement thereof. As a result, the cycle time of a filtration process may be reduced, and consequently, the overall capacity of the associated filter press is increased. A filtrate vat assembly and a vertical filter are also disclosed.

摘要： A method and apparatus is disclosed for separating a slurry into liquids and solids in a pressure filter apparatus and for forming a substantially dry and often loosely packet filter solids cake wherein a high temperature and high pressure steam is introduced into an initially formed filter cake in the pressurized filter apparatus to force the steam into the interstices of the formed filter cake and then pressure within the filter apparatus is reduced to permit the steam to flash and to expand within the interstices to absorb any remaining fluids within the formed filter cake and to cause the filter cake to become substantially dry and loosely packed. The filtered solids cake is then discharged for the filter apparatus.

At each step, the carriage opens up a group of filter plates. The plates are vibrated vertically by cams carried by the carriage. The vibrating action alternately tensions and relaxes the filter cloth for dislodging accumulated filter cake. An improved cylinder and ram arrangement for actuating the closing head is also disclosed and comprises oppositely acting cylinder and ram units carried by an intermediate travelling cylinder carriage. The arrangement achieves the advantages of a telescopic cylinder and ram unit, but at lower cost.
