    • A remote controlled boar guidance system and method of artificially inseminating sows for facilitating movement of a boar inside a swine insemination facility to permit safe and efficient insemination of sows (10) by a single person. The remote controlled boar guidance system and method of artificially inseminating sows includes a remote controlled steerable vehicle having sufficient power to move a boar within confined spaces inside a swine insemination facility. The vehicle (12) includes a plurality of wheels (20) distributed on opposite sides of the vehicle (10). Wheels (20) on each side are separately powered to permit steering of the device. The power source (36), drive motors (37), and receiver are positioned within a housing. In an embodiment, an opaque protection screen is provided to permit safe release of the boar from the device.

    • An intrauterine contraceptive system may include a contraceptive intrauterine device, a retrieval thread permanently attached to the intrauterine device and an insertion device for inserting the intrauterine device into a uterus. The system may also include a release thread releasably coupled with the intrauterine device. The intrauterine device may be deployable out of a distal end of the insertion device and may be configured to change from a delivery configuration when housed in the insertion device to a deployed configuration when deployed in a uterus. The retrieval thread and the optional release thread may be at least partially housed within the insertion device during insertion of the intrauterine device into the uterus. The release thread may extend from the intrauterine device through the insertion device to an attachment point at or near a proximal end of the insertion device.

    • A boar cart (10) for carrying a boar through alleyways of a sow insemination area for interaction with the sows during insemination is formed by a cage for containing the boar including a cage floor (17) on which the boar stands, two sides (50, 51) each defined by vertical bars on a respective side of a longitudinal center line of the cage assembly for confining the boar so that the boar is maintained extending longitudinally of the cage, a front (52) and a rear (53) defined by vertical bars, at least one of which can be opened as a door to allow entry and exit. The cage is mounted on rear driving wheels (22) and front steering/caster wheels (35, 36). The cage is defined by a front portion (12) and a rear portion (11) connected together for pivotal articulated movement about one or two pivot couplings defining a vertical pivot axis (13) arranged substantially at the center line such that the cage can articulate to the left and to the right for navigating left and right corners in the alleyways while the boar is retained in the cage. The length of the cage is reduced by bowing the front and rear bars. The front steering wheels (35, 36) can be set to direct the steering slightly to the left or right so as to tend to guide the cage along one or other side of the alley where it has rollers (43, 44) to run along a rail and hold the boar close to the sows on one side.
