    • A cutting insert comprises an upper chip surface (16), a bottom surface (17) and side faces (18, 19) therebetween. At each of the end faces the cutting insert has axially protruding portions (22, 23), each of which appears with a bevel face (26, 27). Main cutting edges are provided in the intersection between the chip surface (16) and the side surfaces (18, 19). On each side surface is provided a clearance surface (30) formed on a protruding portion (31) which via a step clearance extends into a secondary helically twisted clearance surface, the chip angle of which increases with increasing cutting depth. With the cutting insert regarded in plan view the bevel face is oriented in straight angle towards the main cutting edge (24, 25). Thanks to this embodiment is achieved constant functional edge angle along a wave-shaped edge line, which combined with step clearance and large positive axial angle ( alpha ) enables improved precision when machining a 90-degree shoulder in a work piece, which contributes to a more even wear along the main cutting edge and increased life-time of the cutting insert.

    • A rotatable cutting tool (10) has a shank portion for coupling to a tool driving device and a cutting portion in which are retained plural replaceable cutting inserts, each insert having at least one cutting edge. The shank portion includes a mounting face for removeably supporting an insert mounting disk having plural recesses at the periphery thereof for receiving the replaceable inserts. Each recess provides at least one seating surface for an insert, and includes opposing face portions between which an insert is releasably retained. The disk includes a central bore and radial grooves, at least one radial groove connecting the central bore and each insert receiving recess. The disk includes a concave central portion surrounding the central bore. A clamping means secures the disk to the shank and is used to elastically deform the concavity of the disk, whereby clamping forces are built and relaxed on all inserts placed in the disk concurrently by adjustment of the clamping means.

    • The present invention relates to a cutting tool preferably for milling. The tool comprises a holder (30) and a cutting insert (10). The cutting insert (10) has a generally circular basic shape and includes at least one cutting edge (16) created by the transition between an upper face (11) and an edge face (13) of the cutting insert (10). The upper face (11) is a rake face, and the edge face (13) is a clearance face. The holder and cutting insert have first means (37, 13b) for preventing rotation of the insert about a center axis (20). The clearance face is conical and converges towards a lower face of the insert. The first means for preventing rotation is provided distant from and radially short of the clearance face and at a part of the insert that is closer to the lower face than to the upper face so as to constitute an indication of fracture radially inside the conical clearance face. The holder and insert comprise second means (35, 13a) for preventing rotation of the insert. Also, said step constitutes an indication of fracture, and thereby a breakage of the cutting edge is better controlled. The present invention further relates to a cutting insert and a method for preventing rotation of the cutting insert about its center axis in a holder for chip forming machining.
