    • A device for holding a piece in a bore comprises a cylindrical sleeve constructed to be inserted into the bore and held therein by engagement of its outer surface with an inner surface of the bore, and a series of fins extending longitudinally of an inner surface of the sleeve and projecting inwardly from the inner surface of the sleeve, the fins being spaced from each other circumferentially of the sleeve with tips disposed to engage an outer surface of a piece inserted into the sleeve. The sleeve and the fins are integrally formed of resilient flexible plastic, and the fins are skewed in a same circumferential direction relative to radial planes of the sleeve. The flexibility of the fins is such that the fins can be readily deflected when engaged by an inserted piece.

    • A compression limiting assembly (10) minimizes compressive forces of a bolt (12) being used to secure a first work piece (26) to another work piece (30). The compression limiting assembly includes a longitudinal sleeve (32) that defines a longitudinal axis (34) extending between a first piece engaging end (46) and a bore insertion end (52). The first piece engaging end includes a flange (44) preventing the bolt from moving therepast. The longitudinal sleeve also includes a retainer portion (36) defining a retainer portion inner diameter. The compression limiting assembly also includes a bolt retainer (42) housed within the retainer portion of the longitudinal sleeve. The bolt retainer is adapted to receive the bolt therethrough to prevent the bolt from falling out of the longitudinal sleeve as the compression limiting assembly is being inserted into the first and second pieces (26, 30). The bolt retainer defines a bolt retainer outer diameter larger than said retainer portion inner diameter. Engaging arms (68) extend obliquely out from said bolt retainer to engage the retainer portion to help secure the bolt retainer therein.

    • A two-piece panel fastener includes a barrel-shaped metal retainer which holds a screw. The screw includes a threaded shaft and a plastic cap which has longitudinally-extending resilient fingers which engage the outer surface of the retainer to captivate the screw. The retainer has a chamfered top flange along its top edge, a circumferential bulge area around its outer surface approximately in the middle of its length, and a base at the bottom. Two circumferential valley regions of reduced diameter are located along the outer surface of the retainer. The first valley region is located between the chamfered top flange and the bulge area and the second is located between the bulge area and the base. When the fingers occupy either of the valley regions, the screw is captively held at either of two stable positions of retraction or extension. The retainer is preferably rigidly affixed to a circuit board by soldering a base flange at the bottom of the retainer to the top surface of the board. After the retainer is separately soldered to the circuit board and the retainer has cooled, the screw and cap assembly are joined to the retainer by snap action of the resilient cap fingers.
