摘要： An electrothermal chemical propulsion apparatus (10) comprises a projectile (12), at least one chemical propellant module (20), an extensible energy coupling device (22) therebetween, and an electrical power supply (24) electrically connected to the device so as to vaporize the device creating a plasma augmenting the gas expansion behind the accelerating projectile at a predetermined time after ignition of the chemical propellant. The method of propelling a projectile includes the steps of providing an extensible conductor (22) between a power supply and the rear of the projectile (12), igniting the propelling charge to generate a gas pressure in the chamber (16), extending the conductor behind the projectile (12), and passing an electrical current pulse through the conductor (22) when the conductor is fully extended.

摘要： An ammunition round assembly (10) having a combustible cartridge is provided. In one embodiment, the ammunition round assembly comprises a cartridge body (12) made of a combustible material consumed in combustion upon firing the ammunition round assembly (10). A base (22) is releasably connected to the cartridge body's bottom end portion (15). A retention member is positioned in a locking groove defined by groove (24) in the cartridge body (12) and the base (22). A projectile (20) is positioned adjacent to the top end portion (17) of the cartridge body. An attachment sleeve (12) releasably connects the projectile (20) and the cartridge body (12). The attachment sleeve (32) has a connection member (37) releasably engaging the connection member (34) on the top end portion of the cartridge body. The attachment sleeve (32) is configured to resist longitudinal motion of the projectile (20) relative to the cartridge body (12) until the ammunition round assembly (10) is fired.

摘要： An ammunition cartridge (50) is disclosed comprising a projectile (54) threadably attached to a combustible case body (64) via a threaded combustible case adapter (62). At least one of the adapter (62) ends has a uniform density of polyurethane resin to provide strength and sufficient support for the threads. The conbustible case body (64) may also have a uniform resin density to support threads (70, 72) corresponding to those on the rear end of the adapter (62). The preferable uniform polyurethane density is about .75 grams per cubic centimeter.
