摘要： Methods and apparatus are disclosed for providing improved service to wireless devices in a radio access network (RAN). This is accomplished through affording cooperative arrangements wherein a helper mobile device having a good link to the RAN assists another mobile device having a poorer quality link to access the RAN, thereby offering improved service. The arrangement includes an out of band link between the mobile devices that does not use the same radio access technology as the RAN. Additionally, an incentive scheme provides credit to users of the assisting devices that is configured to encourage and sustain future cooperative arrangements. Credit may be transferred from a user of the assisted device to the user of the helper device as compensation. Further, an operator of the RAN may also inject credit to users of helper devices to incentivize and sustain future cooperative arrangements.

摘要： An apparatus and method are described for sponsoring service and preferential traffic handling, (i.e., data connectivity) by wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs). A first WTRU may initiate user sponsoring of a second WTRU via an application server (AS). The first WTRU may receive a service trigger from the AS and forward the service trigger to the second WTRU. The second WTRU may then initiate a sponsored session with the AS using the service trigger in order to receive a service from the AS. The first WTRU may also request the AS to transfer a credit to the second WTRU. The AS may establish a direct communication link with a charging system including an online charging function (OCF) and a charging data function (CDF). The AS may send a request to a network to provide preferential traffic handling needed to deliver content to the second WTRU.

Since the distributed proxy system, which includes, for example, a proxy server and/or a local proxy on the mobile device, can intercept traffic to and/or from the mobile device, the intercepted traffic may or may not access the wireless network and/or reach the addressed destination. Thus, for outgoing and incoming requests directed from or directed to the mobile device, the distributed proxy system tracks and stores a destination address (e.g., a destination IP address). The proxy server can extract and store the origination address for each incoming communication for various mobile devices such that a service provider can bill or otherwise manage incoming communications to the mobile devices.
