    • A method for reducing a signal-to-noise ratio requirement in a time division multiple access (TDMA) link of a mobile network. The network includes a first node and a second node. The method includes receiving at the first node, an initial TDMA signal burst transmitted from the second node, the initial burst comprising a long preamble and determining link state variables, thereby synchronizing the first node to the TDMA signal burst. The method further includes tracking the link state variables between the initial TDMA signal burst and subsequent receptions of TDMA signal bursts from the second node at the first node the subsequent burst comprising a short preamble. The link variables mainly comprise synchronisation parameters.

    • A wireless network is provided that uses pseudo-static time slots. These time slots remain fixed in time unless and until a network controller specifically changes them and the network controller subsequently receives confirmation of the change. Times and durations of the pseudo-static time slots are only changed in small steps as each relevant device in the network acknowledges the step.     • The aim of the invention is to adapt the timing advance of a mobile terminal (MS) during synchronous handover from a first (BS1) to a second base station (BS2) of a radio communications system. A timing advance value (TA1) that is used by the terminal (MS) prior to handover for transmission to the first base station (BS1) is corrected using the time delay measured.
