    • Correlation circuitry (2) includes selection circuitry (4) for selecting a sequence of symbol subsets comprising proper subsets of a candidate sequence of symbols and corresponding proper subsets of a target sequence of symbols. Early termination may be performed when the combined correlation value indicates a sufficient degree of confidence in the partial result determined such that continuing with determination of the full correlation is not justified.

    • A solution for determining in a radio receiver a data sequence indicating transmission parameters and a spreading factor applied to a frame before receiving the whole frame in the radio receiver. According to the provided solution, the transmission parameters and the spreading factor are determined from received data of a partially received data sequence indicating the transmission parameters of the frame. The received portion of the data is despread with known possible spreading factors and the despread data is compared with corresponding data of known possible transmitted data sequences. Spreading factor-data sequence combination resulting in the best match with the received data is then determined to be the most probably transmitted data sequence. The results of comparison with respect to the spreading factor may be combined with another spreading factor determination procedure for more reliable detection of the correct spreading factor.

    • The invention relates to an apparatus supporting an acquisition of a received code modulated signal by determining the correlation between the received code modulated signal and an available replica code sequence at different code phases. It is proposed that the apparatus comprises a first acquisition engine for selecting code phases which are good candidates for being the code phase at which a received code modulated signal and an available replica code sequence have the highest correlation. The apparatus further comprises a second acquisition engine for performing a refined comparison between a received code modulated signal and an available replica code sequence for each code phase selected by the first acquisition engine.     • Method for acquiring a plurality of GPS signals, in which the signals received from the space vehicles are correlated, in an array of parallel processing modules (20) with local replicas of a pseudorandom code. By increasing the information compactness of said smaller parts, the accuracy of a next correlation is improved. A down-sampler (5) is used for controlling said information compactness, with a down-sampling factor being decreased for a next correlation to increase said information compactness for said next correlation.
