摘要： A signal generation device comprises a variable frequency oscillator configured to generate an output signal having an output frequency dependent on an oscillator control signal, and a first frequency division stage (200) configured to generate from the output signal a first comparison signal having a first comparison frequency equal to the output frequency divided by a first divisor. A second frequency division stage (400) is configured to generate from a reference signal a second comparison signal having a second comparison frequency equal to the frequency of the reference signal divided by a second divisor. The two divisors are variable. A comparator is configured to generate a difference signal. A charge pump (500) is configured to generate a pulsed signal dependent on the difference signal. A gain of the charge pump is variable. A filter is configured to generate the oscillator control signal. A controller (700) is configured to, in response to an indication of a desired change in the output frequency from an initial frequency to a final frequency, control the first and second divisors such that the signal generation device switches from an initial mode in which the output signal has the initial frequency to a final mode in which the output signal has the final frequency through an interim mode in which the first and second divisors are larger than in the final mode by a common multiplier, and control the gain of the charge pump to be higher in the interim mode than in the final mode.

摘要： A multi-Gigahertz, low jitter phase locked loop (PLL) with adjustable gain is disclosed. In one embodiment, properties of a f Vco signal of a PLL can be acquired. Properties can include the occurrences of different types of jitter on the f Vco signal and the lock status of the PLL. A gain control module can control at least a portion of the PLL based on an analysis of the acquired properties. For example, when the loop is locked or when there is loop filter leakage, the gain of a charge pump in the PLL can be reduced. When a charge pump mismatch is detected based on the acquired properties, additional control signals can be provided to the charge pump to correct the mismatch.

摘要： Apparatus and methods for adjusting a gain of an electronic oscillator, such as a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), are disclosed. In one aspect, an apparatus for compensating for VCO gain variations includes a charge pump controller. The charge pump controller can be configured to select a VCO gain model based on a comparison of a VCO gain indicator and a threshold value stored in a memory, obtain VCO gain model parameters from the memory corresponding to the selected VCO gain model, and compute a charge pump current control value using the VCO gain model parameters. The charge pump current control value can be used to compensate for VCO gain variations.

A frequency control system includes a dual-input bias generator to separately receive management and operational controls. The bias generator includes a first bias generator circuit to generate a bias control based on a difference between the management control and a bias feedback reference during a first mode of operation, a second bias generator circuit to generate the bias control based on a difference between the operational control and the bias feedback reference during a second mode of operation, and a bias feedback reference circuit to generate the bias feedback reference based on the bias control. The first mode may include a characterization and/or a start-up mode. The second mode may include an operational mode, such as a feedback-controlled mode.
