    • The present invention is an improved apparatus and method for its use in the decontamination and remediation of soils laden with organic hydrocarbons and toxic inorganic compounds. The soil to be treated is placed in a soil treatment tray (8) which is subsequently placed within the treatment chamber (4). A multiple radiant heater rack (14) is placed over the treatment chamber (4) and the contaminant compounds are heated and vaporized. A blower fan (22) creates a vacuum which pulls the organic hydrocarbon gases and other vaporized contaminants through the soil and out to the contaminant vapor removal/condenser unit (20) where the compounds are liquified and containerized. A novel automatic safeguard system comprises a control module (38) operatively connected to a secondary blower fan (34), pressurized solenoid switch, gas valves and flame sensors, which insures that all burners (16) and fans (32, 34) are running continuously. This automatically shuts down one or more components of the system should a burner (16) or fan (3) malfunction so that the potentially dangerous accumulation of explosive gasses is prevented.

    • The invention relates to a regulating system for a gas burner. Regulating systems for gas burners are used for guiding a gas flow and a combustion air flow to the burner. The gas flow can be regulated depending on combustion air pressure. Pressure is measured in known regulating devices with the aid of a membrane, that is pneumatically. Said pneumatic pressure measurement limits the scope of application of known regulating devices. In the inventive regulating device, a sensor (16) is arranged between a first line (10) guiding a gas flow and a second line (12) guiding the combustion air flow, an electric or electronic signal (19) being generated by said sensor that is used to regulate the gas valve (11).
