    • Apparatus and method embedding a camera in a street light includes structure and/or function whereby the street light, comprising has a first compartment having an LED array configured to illuminate an area beneath the street light. A second compartment is coupled to the first compartment and has a camera directed toward the area beneath the street light. The second compartment has a window covering the camera such that the camera can receive light from area beneath the street light, but passers-by do not see the camera. A third compartment is coupled to the second compartment and is configured to attach the street light to a vertical support. A passive air channel is disposed between the first compartment and the second compartment, and is configured to direct air from beneath the street light to the top of the street light. Preferably, the power supply for the LED array is disposed in a compartment different that the first compartment. An anti-glare device is preferably mounted to a bottom of at least one of the first compartment and the second compartment, and is configured to shield the camera from light glare and/or reflections from the LED array.

    • A method of configuring a plurality of installed lighting units (110) comprises determining that a first installed lighting unit (110) should remain a member of a first logical group, and that a second installed lighting unit (110) should switch to a second logical group. The method further comprises interrupting a supply of electric power to the first installed lighting unit (110), e.g. via a suitable an interrupter (310), whereby the first installed lighting unit (110) is incapable of receiving a command from a controller of at least the first and second installed lighting units. The method further comprises broadcasting, from the controller, to at least the first and second installed lighting units (110), a command arranged to cause any suitable lighting unit (110) which receives it to join the second logical group, thereby causing the second installed lighting unit (110) to switch to the second logical group. The method further comprises resuming the supply of electric power to the first installed lighting unit (110) whereby it becomes operable to receive and react to commands from the controller.

    • A railroad roadside lamp that generates electricity using the suction force of a train and stores energy in a flywheel, characterized in that a swing device powered by suction force and a flywheel electricity-generating device are added to a roadside lamp along a railroad. When a train passes, the swing device obtains the suction force and swings; the swing force forces the liquid in the device to drive a hydraulic motor and a flywheel to rotate; the flywheel stores the kinetic energy and simultaneously drives a generator to generate electricity; the electricity generated by the generator is converted into mechanical kinetic energy by a control circuit and is stored in a flywheel battery; at night, a control circuit sends a signal, and the flywheel battery provides electricity to the roadside lamp to emit light for illumination. The use of chemical batteries is therefore avoided so as to reduce environmental pollution.
