    • The present invention is directed to a rolling protective shutter (10) having slats (32) with integrated screw bosses (158) formed in their hinges (34). Each slat (32) includes a first elongated socket (154) along one edge of the slat (32), and a second elongated socket (156, 158) along the opposite edge of the slat (32). The hinges (34) of the shutter curtain (30) are formed by pivotally disposing the second elongated socket (156, 158) of one slat (32) within the first elongated socket (154) of an adjacent slat (32). After the shutter curtain (30) is assembled, alignment/retention members (160) are attached to either end of the second elongated socket (156, 158) to keep the slats (32) substantially vertically aligned and retained within the side tracks (40). The alignment/retention members (160) engage the adjoining slats (32) to prevent substantial relative movement of the interconnected slats (32), and are dimensioned so that the alignment/retention members (160) do not extend beyond the surfaces of the slats (32). Consequently, the shutter curtain (30) may be tightly rolled onto the shutter support member (22) without interference form the alignment/retention members (160).
