    • A spacer (32) for use in the wall construction for a building or the like. The wall generally comprises a plurality of blocks (12) each block having first and second sides, an exterior face, and interior face, a top and a bottom, and a pair of cutouts extending through the block between the top and bottom (Fig. 1).     • The invention relates to a brick alignment device for bricklaying comprising a brick support and spacer member projecting orthogonally from one side of the brick support, the depth of the brick support and spacer member being substantially the same as the desired spacing between adjacent bricks for the reception of grouting mortar therebetween. The invention provides brick engaging teeth which are relatively sharp and small in cross-sectional area which project easily through the mortar to either slice through any obstructions in the mortar or push and bypass such obstructions. Further because the brick-engaging surface of each tooth is relatively small the tooth will engage in recesses and accommodate irregularities in the brick.

    • A system consists of blocks (1) provided with grooves (19, 21) as well as joining elements (23) which are situated in the grooves for positioning the blocks with respect to each other. The block (1) has two joining sides (3, 5) for joining the blocks situated above and/or below it. Starting with a rough, undressed block, a layer of the rough block is removed from both joining sides over the whole surface, so that the joining sides (3, 5) become bearing surfaces (15, 17), which form the contact surfaces with the blocks above and below them. When dressing the rough block one makes sure that the distance (18) between the bearing surfaces (15, 17) lies within narrow tolerances of a desired value. Because of this, the blocks in a course lie precisely in a horizontal plane. The grooves (19, 21) and joining elements (23) make sure that the blocks lie precisely in a vertical plane. The joining element (23) is a profiled strip made of a flexible material having a width W 1 which is greater than the width W 2 of the grooves.

    • A masonry wall is formed of masonry block units abutted with one another in series within stacked rows. Each masonry block unit is a concrete body having two opposing exterior side walls defining respective portions of the assembly masonry wall. Vertical reinforcement channels are formed in the exterior side walls of each masonry block unit so as to be open laterally to the exterior. The reinforcement channels align with corresponding channels in the masonry block units in adjacent stacked rows to receive elongate reinforcement members, for example rebar, inserted laterally therein from the exterior surface of the assembly masonry wall. A bonding material can then be recessed laterally into the reinforcement channels so as to bond the reinforcement members to the masonry assembly.
