    • The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of melamine, which process comprises at least the following steps: i) feeding methane and ammonia to a pre- reactor which pre- reactor is maintained at a temperature between 700 and 1500 °C whereby a gaseous mixture (i) is formed comprising at least hydrogen cyanide, ii) optionally, purifying mixture (i) thereby forming a mixture (ii) that contains at least gaseous hydrogen cyanide, a. feeding hydrogen cyanide from mixture (i) or (ii) and ammonia, either separately or combined, to a reactor that contains a catalyst and which reactor is maintained at a temperature of 300-500°C, at a space velocity lying between 102 and 106 ml/(g.hr), whereby a gaseous mixture (a) is formed comprising at least melamine, b. optionally, purifying mixture (a) producing a melamine containing mixture (b), c. separating at least a part of the formed melamine thereby forming a mixture (c) and separated melamine.

    • The invention relates to a process for obtaining crystalline melamine from a melamine melt, comprising: a) a cooling step, in which the melamine melt is given a pressure between 0.1 MPa and 20 MPa and a temperature below the melting point of melamine at the prevailing pressure, upon which solid melamine is formed; b) a pressure adjustment step, in which the pressure of the solid melamine is adjusted to a value between 0.1 and 5 MPa; c) a dissolving step, in which the solid melamine is contacted with an aqueous phase that has a pH between 6 and 13 and in which less than 5 wt.% ammonia is present, upon which a solution is formed; d) a crystallization step, in which the solution is cooled by at least 20 °C, upon which crystalline melamine is formed; e) a separation step, in which crystalline melamine is separated from the solution.

    • The process to recover both melamine and oxyaminotriazines (OAT) from the mother liquors of melamine crystallisation comprising the following steps: a) addition to a melamine and OAT containing aqueous solution at high temperature of an alkaline agent until the solution pH reach a value equal or higher than 11; b) most of melamine crystallisation by solution cooling; c) separation and recovery of precipitated melamine; d) acidification of the obtained solution, after precipitated melamine separation, in order to reach a pH of about 7; e) the suspension obtained in d) above after precipitated melamine recovery, is subject to filtration according to tangential filtration technique obtaining a clear permeate which contains as a solution all melamine which did not precipitate in step b) and a retentate comprising of OAT dispersion; f) OAT deprived mother liquors from e) are recycled to row melamine solution preparation step; in such a way almost the total amount of melamine, which did not precipitate in step b), is recovered; g) OAT are recovered from step e) retentate by using any conventional separation technics.

As a result thereof, pure melamine is deposited in solid form. Further expansion of the melamine to atmospheric pressure, if necessary, and cooling to room temperature are then carried out in any order and the pure melamine is isolated.
