摘要： A self-cleaning ultraviolet wastewater disinfection unit and method are provided. The disinfection unit defines a water treatment chamber comprising a UV lamp for treating the wastewater. A plurality of pieces of media may be positioned in the treatment chamber. When wastewater is present in the chamber, gas is injected into the wastewater through a gas inlet conduit. The gas agitates the pieces of media in the wastewater to cause the pieces of media to rub against the UV lamp unit to remove matter that has accumulated on the UV lamp unit. The removal of accumulated matter on the UV lamp and other surfaces in the chamber may improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the disinfecting unit. Furthermore, the cleaning operation may be performed automatically at scheduled periods to increase the time between major cleanings of the unit.

摘要： According to the present invention there is provided a method for delivering one or more active species to a reservoir or flow of a contaminated fluid material, thereby to effect a predetermined transformation preferably via photocatalysis and/or photolysis. The method comprises the steps of: optionally providing a catalytic substrate; providing a feed comprising one or more predetermined reactants; providing an energy source wherein energy derived therefrom is contactable with a transport medium and if present, with the catalytic substrate, thereby to provide a species active against said one or more predetermined reactants; and contacting the active species with the feed, thereby to actively effect the predetermined chemical transformation. The method is especially suitable for remediating organic contaminants such as 1,4-dioxane and N- nitrosodimethylamine and pathogens, bacteria, organisms, etc . The present invention also provides apparatus for performing such a method.

摘要： According to the present invention there is provided a method for effecting a chemical transformation, the method comprising the steps of: providing a catalytic substrate; providing a feed comprising one or more reactants; providing an energy source wherein energy derived therefrom is contactable via a transport medium with the catalytic substrate, thereby to provide a species active against said one or more reactants; and contacting the active species with the feed, thereby to actively effect the chemical transformation. Preferably, the active species are free radicals. The catalytic material is preferably TiO 2 and the energy is preferably UV light of wavelength 200-400 run. The method is suitable for remediating organic contaminants such as 1,4-dioxane and/or N -nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), and bacteria, organisms, etc . The present invention also provides an apparatus for performing such a method.
