摘要： A ring binder mechanism (101) for holding loose-leaf pages has a housing (111) having a cavity (163) formed in the underside of a central portion (113) of the housing. A pair of hinge plates (121) are disposed between the lateral sides of the housing for pivoting movement relative to the housing to open and close rings (125) of the mechanism. The mechanism has an actuator (131) moveable relative to the housing for opening and closing the rings. The actuator has a body (141), an opening arm (143) extending from the body, a closing arm (145) extending from the body and a locking finger (151) extending from the body. The closing arm extends into a space between the hinge plates and the central portion of the housing. The hinge plates extend between the opening and closing arm. The locking finger extends into the cavity in the central portion of the housing when the actuator is in the closed position.

摘要： A binding mechanism assembly for binding a sheet item, the binding mechanism assembly including a backing member having an upper surface, and a binding member directly or indirectly coupled to the backing member. The binding member includes a protrusion shaped and located to protrude through a hole of a sheet item to be bound thereto. The binding member further includes a generally flexible flange that is manually movable into engagement with the protrusion to form a generally closed loop and thereby bind the sheet item thereto. The loop is rotatable relative to the backing member from a first position in which the loop is generally located above the upper surface to a second position wherein at least part of the loop is located below the upper surface. A release mechanism is provided for opening the loop.

The ring metal includes binder rings (R) mounted on movable frames (F) to which one end of each ring half is attached. The frames are movable relative to each other to open and close the rings. A ring guard (10) is removably installable over a portion of each ring half, when the binder ring is closed, to securely encompass rings halves (12, 14) forming the ring. The guard encloses the junction (J) where outer ends of the ring halves meet when the rings are closed and prevents a gap from opening between the ring halves if the binder is subjected to a force which would otherwise cause a gap to form between the ring halves and paper stored in the binder to spill out or be damaged.
