    • A solenoid plunger for use in solenoid driven multi-line embossing systems is constructed of magnetic steel laminations that are attached to a center block which is machined to mount a solenoid shaft and anti-rotate pins. The laminations are attached to the center block with screws and vacuum epoxy glued for a very high cycle life. The laminated steel construction dramatically reduces eddy currents, which allows the magnetic field to rise and fall much more quickly than a conventional steel plunger. It also increases the magnetic force in the solenoid. This reduction in solenoid plunger eddy currents and increase of magnetic force in the solenoid structure itself operates to increase embosser throughput. The laminated steel construction further reduces embosser solenoid heating which also contributes to improved embossing control.

    • An embossing machine for the mechanical customizing of a substrate for an identity card, comprising: means such as a drum carrying a plurality of die and matrix pairs which can be operated to form strings of symbols on a surface of a substrate for a card ; means for activating a die and matrix pair positioned in the embossing position; positioning means for positioning predetermined die and matrix pairs in a time sequence in the said embossing position, and a control unit for controlling the said activation means and the said positioning means.     • The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for embossing raised dots (B) on plate elements (A), at least partly plastically deformable. The apparatus comprises at least one punch (31) movable alternatively along a first direction (Z) to emboss a raised dot (B), on a plate element (A) which rests, on a work surface intercepted by said first, direction (Z). Advantageously, the apparatus also comprises a feed device (2) of the plate element (A) along a second direction (X), which can be operated to feed new sections of said plate element (A) to the punch (31). The punch (31) can be translated along a third direction (Y), orthogonal to said first direction (Z), to emboss at least another raised dot (B) along a same section of the plate element (A).
