    • A printing press (20) performs offset color printing. A blanket cylinder (35) having four image segments (42) selectively contacts a plate cylinder (27) having four image segments (44) and an impression cylinder (30) having five image segments (41) for carrying print media (31). A pair of eccentric bushings for independently controlling the impression cylinder engages same to blanket cylinder (35). A print media feed system (58) and a delivery system (57) are located on the same side of the press (20) and cooperate with each other via a means for moving feed (54) and delivery trays (65) in a generally vertical direction. Print media (31) are gripped only once and travel in the same direction until let go by the impression cylinder (30). An image forming system forms four images on a plate cylinder (27) to be inked by four respective inking units (29 K, C, M, Y) oriented therearound. All four plate image sections (44) can be inked during one rotation of the plate cylinder (27). Four inking units (29) including a minimal number of rollers for inking the plate image sections (44). Such an orientation of cylindrical image segments (41) only discards the first three print media (31) and can deliver a finished printed media by the fifth rotation of the impression cylinder (30).

    • A printing method and system, which includes at least one printing apparatus is provided. Each printing apparatus includes a printing member (402) for selectively receiving ink into an ink receptive portion. The ink receptive portion includes a plurality of ink receptive dots forming a grid pattern in a desired resolution, and an ink repelling portion. The ink repelling portion includes the entire area of the printing member except the ink receptive dots. Each printing apparatus includes at least one printing unit, preferably but not necessarily and ink jet printing unit (210), the printing unit for applying ink onto the printing member (402) in accordance with a pattern representing an image (212) to be printed, thereby forming an ink image (212) on a portion of the ink receptive dots, and a transfer system (404) for transferring the ink image (212) onto a printing substrate (206).
