Um für eine stets hohe relative Rotationsgeschwindigkeit des Werkstückes in Bezug auf die Granulatpartikel unmittelbar an der Werkstückoberfläche zu sorgen, sieht die Erfindung vor, dass das Werkstück oder ein die Schüttung aus dem Schleif- oder Poliergranulat aufnehmender Behälter in periodischen Zyklen von höchstens 5 s zwischen einer ersten Rotationsgeschwindigkeit und einer zweiten Rotationsgeschwindigkeit hin und her beschleunigt und/oder unter fortwährender Beschleunigung mit fortwährend unterschiedlichen Rotationsgeschwindigkeiten rotiert wird bzw. werden. Die Erfindung betrifft ferner eine zur Durchführung eines solchen Verfahrens geeignete Vorrichtung, wie eine Schlepp- oder Tauchfinishmaschine, welche eine Steuereinrichtung umfasst, die zur Beaufschlagung eines Rotationsantriebs ihrer Werkstückhalter, an welchen die Werkstücke spannbar sind, oder ihres Behälters zur Aufnahme der Granulatschüttung mit Rotationsgeschwindigkeitsprofilen der vorgenannten Art während des Betriebs eingerichtet ist.
