    • A method of brazing metallic composites is described. The method provides advantage whereby need to machine or otherwise treat metallic surfaces to be bonded is reduced or substantially removed. The method of the invention includes steps of placing a ferrous based brazing alloy adjacent to a surface of a first material, such as a steel substrate, the ferrous based brazing alloy and surface of the first material having a carbon component arranged therebetween. A second material, such as a white cast iron, is also arranged to be adjacent to the ferrous based brazing alloy. The first and second materials, with ferrous based brazing alloy and carbon component arranged therebetween is subjected to heat until brazing temperature is reached. The temperature is maintained until a metallurgical bond between the ferrous based brazing alloy and the first and second materials is achieved. Compositions of ferrous based brazing alloys are also described.
